ICT blogging activity (Masterplan for ICT education)

Q1:

In the rapidly globalized world, it is  inevitable for the engines of education to be closely associated with the usage of technology. By infusing technology into the curriculum and assessment, it would be beneficial to aid in the learning process of the younger generation. The Masterplan for ICT education is a platform to gear up for the future, into a more education oriented Singapore.

The goals of Masterplan 1 is to embellish interdependence between institutions and the world by allowing both educators and learners to cooperate together to gain better insights, aid in producing creative methods through increasing versatility to make accurate judgement, to allow institutions to use ICT tools flexibly in their curriculum in order to promote innovation and societal accountability. It too helps to generate a better administrative and management quality.

The main goal of Masterplan 2  is to ensure that ICT tools be extensively and efficiently applied to improve
learning processes and educational framework. With the usage of ICT tools to remodel education, it aims to cater to the requirements and competency of different learners, in the hope of providing utmost foundation to foster lifelong learners.

The Masterplan 3 developed in year 2009 aims to emphasize the crucial role played by leaders of the school, to conceive an environment for students and teachers to apply ICT in an engaging and purposeful way. The objective is also to ensure that teachers have the ability to plan and carry out ICT enabled lessons which could encourage learner oriented and cooperative learning among students while using ICT in a careful and secured manner. In addition, the Masterplan 3 stresses on the need to have the infrastructure to achieve the objectives of the vision and to enable the use of ICT for students to learning at home.

I reckon it is of utmost importance for MOE to develop the Masterplans for ICT learning as it successfully and skillfully integrates technological know-how with necessary knowledge needed to be passed on to the students. The IT resources is the basis of ICT learning, where it supports teaching and learning. The change and innovation engages learning. It is important to develop Masterplans for ICT learning as it broadens the capacity of learning and through experimentation, it pushes the frontier and allows learners to go through experiential learning. Also, schools develop ownership while they process knowledge in both audio and visual ways, in which it help the students to learn through various methods. It is indeed vital for MOE to promote ICT learning as it creates a collaborative knowledge construction and e learning could conveniently take place beyond classroom and students learn to take ownership of the process in acquiring knowledge.

Q2:

As a student, the Masterplans of ICT learning were impactful.  The usage of technological tools were a great motivation to learn within the school or even beyond the boundaries of classrooms as learning is taken to a whole new level. For instance, usage of CD roms in primary school level to get students engaged in meaningful and effective games, in different disciplines like Mathematics. The interesting animations and various themes would evoke the passion in a particular subject. In tertiary or even government institutions, e learning is still constantly encouraged and included in the curriculum. While the teachers are making explanations or drawing examples in relation to what they are teaching, the ICT tools serve as a direct and effective platform to make substantiations. This aid students in acquiring knowledge from the internet, filter and think creatively and independently even when they are on their own.

Q3:
In my opinion, the Masterplan 3 for ICT in Education may affect my role as a beginning teacher as assuming that the lack of experience and management of students could well pose a potential obstacle. It is taken that a beginning teacher may not be able to make the best use of ICT in the classroom as effective adopting the computer and the internet in the classroom requires time. Besides, the integration of ICT learning in classroom may influence the current curriculum in terms of content knowledge.
